Bhool Bhulaiyaa is a 2007 Hindi drama film starring Amitabh Bachchan, Sanjay Dutt and Rimi Sen in lead roles. The film marked the directorial debut of Samir Karnik. Produced by N Chandra, the story of the film is adapted from "The Village" by Mulk Raj Anand's novel "Untouchable". The film is about two brothers who are born into an untouchable family that has to suffer immense humiliation at every turn in life, only to find themselves fighting each other for their dignity. Bhool Bhulaiyaa was later dubbed as "The Return of the Untouchables" in Tamil as a sequel to the 1993 film "Thevar Magan". The movie is an unofficial remake of Telugu movie Leader. It was remade in Kannada as Ondaanondu Kaaladalli with Darshan and Puneeth Rajkumar and was also remade in Bengali as Sonar Tori with Mithun Chakraborty and Rituparna Sengupta under the same name. Madhavaram Naresh (Amitabh Bachchan) is a retired accounts officer who is affectionate with his younger brother Raju (Sanjay Dutt) who is quite the opposite in personality. He earns money for Naresh, spends it on himself, and goes around in a jeep that Naresh helped him buy. The brothers are in regular conflict with each other, with Raju thinking of himself as superior to his elder brother because he has married well. But their relationship is also one of mutual caring and support in the face of the ridicule they encounter in society due to being members of an untouchable caste. However, Naresh’s life takes a tragic turn when his wife Ammu (Rimi Sen) and daughter Lakshmi (who was conceived before she was wed) die in an accident. The reason for Ammu's death remains a mystery because the doctor who attended them does not attend to Naresh. He is left alone to raise his daughter Lakshmi, who is now by nature and attitude the very opposite of her father in character and nature. Naresh feels that she has betrayed him and has lost all affection for him because of her mother's death. He is shattered by grief and develops a hate-hate relationship with his daughter which leads to constant fights between the two and even violence between them. This state of affairs continues until Naresh's father's death. Naresh is in his village when he hears that his brother has arrived there. He goes to the house where he sees the family idol (a cowry shell) in a corner; in front of which his brother puts flowers around it in honor of Ammu. He tells his brother that he does not wish for anything for himself and has no desire for material gain. cfa1e77820
